The present Church of Sts Peter & Paul in Banting was established as a parish in 1976. It was then known as the Church of Our Lady of Fatima.
Long before 1976, priests were visiting and providing pastoral care for Catholics in this area, spanning Banting, Morib, Tanjung Sepat, and Sungai Pelek, mostly through home visits and home Masses. Among the priests we know of who served this community were Fr John of the Cross, Fr Soosay, Fr Giraud, and Fr Anthony Chan. In 1976, Fr Louis Guittat took up residence in Banting as Parish Priest.

This building was originally a manager’s bungalow for the rubber estate, and later the palm oil estate. With the help of some parishioners, the bungalow was purchased and has served as the church ever since.
The ground floor was used as the church while Father resided upstairs. The upper floor had a large central living room connected to four rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a toilet. It featured traditional wooden windows all around, and with about 30 oil palm trees and a steady breeze, the place was kept beautifully cool.
In 2013, the new church was built. This also marked a change of name, from the Church of Our Lady of Fatima to the present Church of Sts Peter & Paul. In Catholic tradition, a change of name signifies a community called to a new mission.

Since 2025, we have been working on our own parish museum, a collection of the old sacred vessels of the parish. It includes Mass kits, chalices, cruets, holy water sprinklers, and holy oil containers. The cupboards housing these items are our original cupboards, modified for this purpose.
One of our first tabernacles is this beautiful wooden piece, which belonged to the Sisters of the Holy Infant Jesus novitiate chapel at Pantai Morib.

A view of the Jordan River, where it all began more than 2,000 years ago. These riverbanks continue to inspire us to walk in the way of the Gospel.
