FORMATION IN OUR PARISH

May 25, 2026 • admin

In the month of June 2026, we will have two formation programmes:

  1. Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) – Faith Study Series
The first series of Level 1: Discovery.
  2. Catechetical Formation (In-House)
An introduction to our Malaysian Catechetical Series (MCS) for all current catechists and those who feel called to become catechists in our parish.

Further details of the above formations are as follows:

1. Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) – Faith Study Series

In April 2025, our parish, Sts Peter and Paul, Banting, was one of the few parishes in the Archdiocese that began the CCO Faith Study Series and completed the five series over 38 weeks of gatherings. This was the first group, consisting of 11 participants.

We are thankful to the Archdiocesan Mission Team — Andrew, Veron, Cynthia, and Emmanuel — who travelled every Sunday from outstation to accompany us on this journey. This journey also included a commissioning weekend with the founders and team from Canada.

In March 2026, we introduced the Discovery series to 13 matriculation varsity students studying at UiTM within our parish. This became the second group.

Currently, since April 2026, Discovery Level 1 is being followed by about 25 parishioners. We meet every Sunday from 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon at the Fatima Centre in our parish. This is the third group.

What is CCO?

CCO is a faith study series created and published by Catholic Christian Outreach Canada. Its origin is in the Diocese of Ottawa, Canada. There are five levels in this study series:

Level 1 – Discovery

An invitation to encounter Christ through a simple yet challenging look at the Gospel message. It consists of six gatherings.

Level 2 – Source

An introduction to the Holy Spirit and the impact that the Third Person of the Trinity can make in the lives of faithful Catholics. It consists of six gatherings and one follow-up session.

Level 3 – Growth

Examines the fundamental practices that nurture our Christian life, such as prayer, sacraments, and fellowship. It consists of six gatherings and one follow-up session.

Level 4 – Trust

Deepens our trust in God. This study helps participants grow in trusting the Lord in all aspects of life so that they may live in greater freedom. It consists of seven gatherings and one follow-up session.

Level 5 – Commission

Focuses on revealing our missionary identity as Catholics and its necessity in approaching our apostolate and personal growth in holiness. It consists of ten gatherings and one follow-up session.

In the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, CCO is under the pastoral care of the Archdiocesan Missionary and New Evangelisation Commission (AMNEC). It was first introduced in our Archdiocese in 2025 as a pilot initiative in three parishes, namely the Parish of the Sacred Heart, Jalan Peel, the Parish of the Holy Family, Kajang, the Parish of St Francis of Assisi, Cheras, and our own parish in Banting, the Church of Sts Peter and Paul. Since then, it has also been introduced to the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima, Brickfields.

Like all programmes, sessions, series, inputs, formations, and presentations in the Church, the ultimate purpose is:

Firstly, to lead us to a personal experience of our faith and of being Church, transforming our lives after Jesus Christ.

Secondly, to lead us to live and share this experience within our parish community through active participation and commitment in the life of the parish.

Thirdly, to open doors and windows for us to share these fruits beyond our parish with others.

Below are a few write-ups on CCO in our parish that were featured in our local Catholic newspaper, The Herald.

2. Catechetical Formation (In-House)

This formation is an introduction to our Malaysian Catechetical Series (MCS) for all current catechists and those who feel called to become catechists in our parish.

We need many more volunteers who are willing to dedicate themselves to being trained as catechists, so that our students may be formed in the faith.

Therefore, parishioners, parents, youths, singles, and all those who feel called are encouraged to offer yourselves and come for this first training, which serves as an introduction to the Ministry of Catechetics in our parish.

The e-pic below provides the details of this upcoming training.

Let us do this for our children and, in the process, benefit from it ourselves too.
